Mitch McConnell insisted that he would stay in his leadership role as the Senate’s top Republican and complete the remainder of his term, in his first major press conference since freezing in front of reporters last week.
“I have no announcements to make on that subject. I am going to finish my term as leader, and I am going to finish my Senate term,” 81-year-old said.
McConnell’s Senate term ends in 2026.
After last week’s incident, McConnell was pronounced “medically clear” to continue working.
Rand Paul, the junior senator from Kentucky and a medical doctor, told reporters on Tuesday that McConnell’s freeze looked like a “focal neurologic event”. Josh Hawley, the Republican senator from Missouri, said he was “concerned” about McConnell’s age.
