Capita has announced that chief executive Jon Lewis will retire at the end of the year. He will be replaced by Adolfo Hernandez, Amazon Web Services’ vice-president of global telecommunications.
Lewis’s departure comes after two data breaches at one of the UK’s biggest outsourcing groups.
Capita warned clients including USS — the UK’s biggest private sector pension plan — that the personal data of members might have been stolen during a cyber attack in March.
The company has also been embroiled in a separate data security incident in which files, including details on local council benefit payments, were left exposed.
“I would like to offer our sincere thanks to Jon and pay tribute to his significant commitment and achievements at Capita over the past five years,” said chair David Lowden.
“I also want to pay particular tribute to his leadership in recent months, during which he decided to delay his possible retirement from Capita due to the cyber incident,” he added.
